Class Offerings
3 years old:
This is a 45 minute class designed especially for three year olds who are potty trained. They will do 15 minutes of tap for rhythm, 15 minutes of ballet for interpretive moves and 15 minutes of tumbling for strength and flexibility.
Combo 1:
This class is for four to five year olds. The class consists of 20 minutes of ballet, 20 minutes of tap and 20 minutes of tumbling. This hour class works on rhythm, strength and flexibility.
Combo 2:
This class is designed for students in Kindergarten and have taken Combo 1 or with a teacher recommendation. It is the same format as the Combo 1 class however it is faster with more complicated patterns.
Tap/Ballet Combo with experience:
This class is primarily for 1st graders. The class consists of 30 minutes of ballet and 30 minutes of tap with no tumbling. This class is for dancers with Combo 2 experience.
Tap/Ballet Combo without experience:
This class is for new students only, ages 6-8. This class is an hour class with 30 minutes of ballet and 30 minutes of tap.
Ballet 1:
This 45 minute class is an entry level class for students in 2nd grade or older. The students will do approximately 15 minutes of barre work, 15 minutes of centre floor work and 15 minutes across the floor work. This class is a must for the serious dancer.
Ballet 2:
This 45 minute class follows Ballet 1. It is the same format with more complicated steps. The students start working on turns and jumps. More emphasis is placed on turnout and technique.
Ballet 3 to Advanced Ballet:
These classes are by teacher recommendation only. They follow a very specific design and build from year to year. Ballet technique is the key to all dance forms.
Pointe:
These begin in Ballet 5 and always follow a regular ballet class. This class is by teacher recommendation only.
Lyrical:
Lyrical dance draws technique and movement from ballet, jazz and modern styles to create an expressive form of dance. Emphasis is placed on musicality and emotion. Dancers need to be in Level 3 ballet or higher in order to participate in this class.
Tap 1:
This is an entry level class. The dancer must be in 2nd grade or older. Rhythm and many basic steps are taught in this class.
Tap 2:
This class is 45 minutes and is the next step after Tap 1. Tap steps become quicker and more complicated. Turns and terminology are stressed.
Tap 3 to Advanced Tap:
These classes are with teacher recommendation only. Various styles and rhythms are taught. The classes are 45 minutes.
Jazz 1:
This is an entry level class. The student must be in 2nd grade or older. This class is 45 minutes in length. The class begins with a warm-up, stretch and isolations. Many of the basic steps are taught this year.
Jazz 2:
This 45 minute class is a continuation of Jazz 1. Different styles of jazz are introduced, turns and leaps are introduced and more intense stretches and strengthening exercises are added.
Jazz 3 to Advanced Jazz:
These classes are by teacher recommendation only. They build on material taught at Level 1 & 2. Combinations become more complicated and ballet is recommended.
Hip Hop:
These classes are not a part of our regular curriculum. These high energy classes are strictly for fun. Beginners must be at least 8 years old and placement is by teacher recommendation. These classes do not take the place of a jazz class.
Modern:
Modern is a form of dance that focuses on expression, emotion and abstract ideas and movements. Beginning Modern students must be in Level 3 classes. The hour long class includes a warm-up, strength exercises, basic modern technique, as well as introduction to floorwork and weight-sharing. Intermediate Modern is a continuation of beginning modern with more complex technique, leaps, turns and floorwork. Ballet is recommended. Advanced modern is by teacher recommendation only. More intense, abstract and complex combinations are learned. Challenging lifts and weight-sharing and improvisation are included. Ballet is recommended.
Aerobics:
Our aerobics classes are a fun way to exercise. They combine sit-ups, push-ups with a variety of jazz styles. The classes are choreographed and set to music. Weights and mats are recommended.
Pilates:
Pilates is a whole body exercise that focuses on strengthening muscles and increasing flexibility to improve overall health. Pilates strengthens the core, improves balance, increases coordination, and decreases stress. The exercises are relatively safe, low impact and appropriate for anyone age 10 to 100. Pilates focuses on learning to move better so the benefits are felt in everyday life. A mat is required for this class. If you are new to Pilates you may be asked to take an intro session before begining class.
Yoga:
Yoga is a low impact workout that builds strength, flexibility and balance through flowing yoga poses. It is a workout that works the mind & body and is great for all ages and flexibilities.
